Is It A Good Idea To Send Flowers On Holidays?

December 1, 2010

What could be bad about sending flowers? Have you ever seen a woman's face light up as she gets flowers delivered to her? The way it keeps her smiling every time she looks at them? What could be awful about that?

With the US flower industry in a state of meltdown, it may be possible for you to help out a local retailer or at least a US company with your purchase. Of course your flowers will come with their tag, and you may start a little "viral reaction" and get that company some much needed business.

Flowers themselves are not just beautiful, but are just pure and organic. If you send your special someone a gift of flowers at their work, it will brighten up her mood, and of course everyone around her too. Even the "lady across the hall" who will be jealous of your special someone is only wishing that she had gotten something so beautiful!

Depending on what flowers you buy, you might also be filling up the room with wonderful natural scents. When she walks in the door of her office and smells the freshness, she'll think of you and your thoughtfulness!

There is much to be said about making sure you send the right message to a woman. Do a little research on flowers before you send a color arrangement or specific flower that has an unintended meaning. You may think pink discount flowers are just pretty, but you may end up with a weird night of explaining your motives.

Herb baskets can also be very nice, but again, make sure that your special someone will appreciate it. Just because it "sounds cool" to you doesn't mean that she will understand, like, or appreciate it. Talking to some of her friends about what kind of flowers she likes is a great way to find out without tipping her off.

Now you know, there's nothing wrong with sending a great discount flowers online every now and then!

What's In Store For The Flower Industry?

November 24, 2010
Huge conglomerates, massive shipping lanes, a highly lubricated machine. Is this what you think of when you get a gift of flowers delivered? Maybe not, but it is part of how you got your gift.

Flowers are more and more coming from overseas markets where workers are paid far less than workers here. With such margins, they are able to pay for the huge cost of shipping these flowers across the ocean to the more wealthy US consumers who will pay more for the product.

Why does it cost $45 to send a ...

You can just imagine the smile..how they felt now that they know they are valued & appreciated ... more than make up for the low pay. Also, many times they were bought as discount flowers online so those that sent them got a great deal.

Obama Visits Gandhi Memorial, Throws Flowers At It

November 8, 2010
US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle went to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial this morning and, in respect, threw flower petals at the base of the memorial.

While this is a traditional way to show respect for the man who meant so much for India's independence from Britain; it deserves a question to be asked: who benefits from such tradition? Although we may like to believe that our own small actions do not affect the world, when a community of individuals perpetually practice such tradit...

Flower Gardening In West Virginia About To Get Tough

October 21, 2010
For those living in West Virginia, a frost coming up might take your flower garden down to the soil until next season. Though if you take the proper precautions this doesn't have to be your annual's final days.

While plastic has tended to become a popular frost cover for plants its been proven far less effective than either sheets a cloth material that can be found at garden shops. These covers keep the warm "breath" of the flowers down near the ground and also traps ground heat that would nor...

Flower Growers Failing Against Global Pressures

September 2, 2010

Here's a number that might shock you. 80% of flowers purchased  in the USA are imported. Seems to be airy at best, and unsustainable the most effective way to score it.

The San Francisco Chronicle recently wrote about the local flower industry and how it is doing  against the global titans  .

In the 80's, the flower industry in California was coming into its own and doing well. With over one hundred large local growers, it was a thriving industry. Now with that number below 20, the industry is ...
